Meet Andie
I'm Andrea Hanford, LPC, and I bring over 24 years of experience in the helping professions—including 17 years in the public school counseling trenches—supporting over-functioning women, educators, and other helpers through chronic burnout, anxiety, and the weight of holding everything together.
I know what it feels like to function well under pressure, manage the logistics, and carry the invisible weight of everyone else's expectations while quietly running on empty. You do not have to keep white-knuckling your way through a life you constantly have to recover from.
I started Weathered Grace Therapy because I saw too many capable, deeply compassionate women quietly fraying at the edges against expectations they never signed up for. You are the one who holds everything together, anticipates every crisis, and manages a demanding life with grace—while secretly wondering how much longer you can keep up this pace.
I know this space intimately, both professionally and personally. You do not need another lecture on time management, a stricter routine, or someone telling you to "just practice self-care" as if a bath bomb is going to dismantle systemic burnout. You need a space where you can finally take off the armor, set down what you've been carrying, and be met with warmth, honesty, and a complete absence of judgment.
My Approach to Therapy
My approach is warm, down-to-earth, collaborative, and mostly free of clinical jargon - I talk to you as a real person not a textbook! Therapy with me is not about receiving a list of instructions or being told what you should do. You’ve most likely spent enough of your life responding to other people’s expectations and/ or directives, you don’t need one more person telling you what to do and how to do it. That just might be your last straw!
Instead, we’ll work together to understand what you are experiencing, how your nervous system has learned to respond to stress and pressure and all the other ways you have been handling life as well as why. THEN we can start making changes at a pace the feels safe for you.
Together, we’ll use nervous system-informed, values-based practices with evidence-based approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to get to the core of thing, helping you move beyond basic symptom management.
In practical, real-life terms, this means we may explore:
The beliefs and expectations that keep you over-functioning
Why slowing down, resting, or saying no feels like committing a crime
How stress and overwhelm show up in your body (usually manifested as gritting your teeth or carrying your shoulders around like earrings - ask me how I know)
What triggers anxiety, irritability, shutdown, or resentment
Which responsibilities genuinely belong to you—and which ones you accidentally picked up from someone else's plate
What you value beyond your roles and obligations - and who you are beyond those roles and responsibilities
How to make choices based on what matters to you
How to build boundaries without abandoning your compassion
Who you are becoming—and what you want your life to reflect
We will pay attention to your thoughts, emotions, physical responses, relationships, and the environments in which your patterns developed. Insight matters, but we will also focus on helping you practice new ways of responding so that change can extend far beyond the virtual therapy hour.
Why “Weathered Grace Therapy”?
Sea glass begins as something ordinary, shaped by years of continuous movement, pressure, and exposure. Its edges become smoothed and weathered, but its value is not lost.
Weathered Grace reflects the way I view the women I work with.
You have been shaped by what you have lived through—and are currently living through—the expectations, responsibilities, relationships, losses, and years of caring for others. Those experiences, along with the patterns of over-functioning and chronic self-abandonment you've leaned on to survive, may have affected how you move through the world, but they do not define the whole of who you are.
You simply need the space to set down what no longer belongs to you (or never did), vent about how utterly exhausting it all is, and reconnect with the parts of yourself that have been buried beneath survival and responsibility. Here you will learn not just WHY your current patterns of being exist for you, but WHAT TO ACTUALLY DO ABOUT THEM.
For me, grace is not about enduring more with a smile plastered on your face. It is about meeting yourself honestly and compassionately as you choose how you want to live now, and finally returning to yourself.
My Why - Because I Lived It
I didn’t come to this work because I wanted a cozy office (though I definitely have that) or a quiet second—or third—career. After spending years in the corporate sector and 17 years as a public school counselor, I hit a massive wall. I knew the soul-crushing exhaustion of endless administrative red tape, mountains of paperwork, and the reality of never having enough time to do what people actually needed, let alone what mattered. I hated feeling like I could only ever offer the bare minimum—rushing through a quick check-in before sprinting off to the next crisis, the next meeting, or the next mandatory task, without ever getting the time to truly listen, engage, and be present for the people who needed real support.
I know what it looks and feels like to live in service-oriented roles where you are expected to absorb everyone else’s chaos and manage it with a smile while your own nervous system screams for a break.
I’ve seen firsthand how exhausting it is to try to meet every demand without missing a beat, and how much damage a "just practice self-care" mentality does when you're facing systemic burnout. I do this work because I was frustrated and sad watching capable, fiercely compassionate women quietly run themselves into the ground for a badge of honor nobody actually handed them. It takes a toll emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually—not only on you, but on the people around you. And I wanted to offer a way out of living like that.
You don't need to be rushed. You need a space where you can drop the performance, use some colorful language if you like about how absurd things have gotten (it doesn’t bother me at all!!), and remember who you actually are underneath all the responsibilities you never signed up for but are carrying anyway.
Everyone deserves a safe landing place where they don't have to perform, where they can set down what they've been carrying, and where they can finally find their way back to themselves. I do this because you shouldn't have to experience a total collapse to realize your life is allowed to look different.
Helping you drop the weight and find your way back to yourself is quite simply the best job in the world.
Education, Training & Licensure
I have extensive, real-world experience walking alongside women carrying the heavy, compounding weight of trauma, relationship stress, and the quiet toll of intimate partner abuse. I believe deeply in your inherent value—not because of what you produce or how well you manage everyone else, but simply because you are here. I approach our work together with genuine care, a steady presence, and a fierce commitment to helping you reclaim the life that belongs to you.
