GETTING STARTED
Taking the first step shouldn't feel like another thing on your to-do list.
You've got enough going on. Getting started with therapy doesn't need to be complicated, intimidating, or another project to manage.
Whether you've been thinking about therapy for months or something finally made you say, "Okay, I really need to talk to someone," I'm glad you're here.
Here's how we get started.
01 | Let's Chat
Schedule Your Free Consultation
We'll start with a free consultation to talk briefly about what's bringing you to therapy, what you're hoping to work on, and whether we're a good fit. You can ask questions, get a feel for my personality and approach, and decide whether you're comfortable moving forward.
No pressure. No commitment. And no need to rehearse what you're going to say beforehand.
02 | The Not-So-Exciting Stuff (But We'll Keep It Simple!)
Paperwork & Scheduling
If we decide to move forward, I'll help you get set up with the next steps.
You'll receive the necessary intake forms and practice policies to review and complete before your first appointment. We'll also review scheduling, fees, and payment arrangements so you know what to expect.
I use a secure online client portal, so the paperwork can be completed electronically.
03 | Come As You Are
Your First Therapy Session
Find a comfortable, private spot, grab your favorite beverage, and settle in. Your first session is about getting to know you, understanding what brings you here, and beginning to explore what you'd like to be different.
We'll talk about your concerns, relevant history, and goals. I'll ask questions, listen, and help us begin connecting the dots.
You don't need to arrive with a perfectly organized life story or a list of things you want to fix.
We'll start wherever you are.
A few things you might be wondering...
Do I have to know exactly what I want to work on?
Nope. Sometimes all you know is that something isn't working and you're tired of feeling the way you do. That's enough to start the conversation.
Do I need to live near Pittsburgh?
No! I provide online therapy to women throughout Pennsylvania. You will need to be physically located in Pennsylvania for your appointments.
What about insurance and payment?
I offer private-pay sessions and participate with select insurance plans. Coverage and out-of-pocket costs vary by plan, so we'll need to verify the details before scheduling.
You can find more information on my Fees & Insurance page.
What if I'm nervous about starting therapy?
That's completely understandable. You don't have to show up feeling confident, comfortable, or ready to tell your entire story. We'll work at a pace that is comfortable and makes sense for you.
